Yeah, OSS seems to be sort of taking over the world these days.  There's 
also a significant effort going on to build an open source version of the 
server side of Second Life (or actually an open source server program that 
overlaps significantly with the behavior of the Second Life server, having 
some things that SL doesn't have, and probably never going to have some of 
the things that SL does have, but you get the idea).  Search on "opensim" 
for various pointers to it.
