Not to make light of Gadi's excellent editorial, but in the early 1990s when I was in Guatemala, I did see armed guards 
in front of every bank building...

However, a rather humorous turn was the armed guards, not in the beer or any other non-armored transport trucks, but 
_only_ in the Coke-a-Cola trucks.

While I disagree on a lot of "security theater" ploys, this is an
