The situation is more serious, reports Yleisradio (aka Yle, Finland's national broadcasting company): --clip-- "However, the Internet surveillance detail is a lot more difficult for smaller police precincts. For example, Riihimäki police say that their officers simply cannot access the Internet using official computers. Police chiefs in Tornio and Kemi say in their officers can't keep an eye on potentially dangerous online activity at all. The Tornio police station does have an Internet connection which allows access to sites such as Youtube, but there just isn't enough manpower to support systematic surveillance." http://www.yle.fi/news/id102797.html Juha-Matti Juha-Matti Laurio [juha-matti.laurio () netti fi] kirjoitti:
"Finland's police chief says he fears more school shootings as the Nordic country mourns the victims of the second massacre in less than a year. Police Commissioner Mikko Paatero says police will increase the monitoring of YouTube and other internet sites where the gunmen in both shootings posted clips foreshadowing the attacks." --clip-- More at http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5jRhICe1OHOVDwBIeWm7ICsij-6kA And "The Internet monitoring unit of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is not capable of engaging in sufficient surveillance of the Internet on its own. Most of the time of the NBIs Internet police is taken up by checking on tipoffs from the public. The shootings in Kauhajoki sharply increased the number of reports coming in from the public on material depicting weapons, for instance. The Ministry of the Interior announced on Wednesday that it would upgrade its monitoring of online content in the upcoming weeks." --clip-- More at http://www.hs.fi/english/article/NBI+struggles+to+monitor+Internet+for+potentially+dangerous+content/1135239763081 According to Finnish language news there was two workers monitoring Internet 'full time' before this new decision mentioned. Reportedly the problem is the filtering system of Finnish police. It prevents access to YouTube etc. with specific keywords for security reasons :-( Additionally, several police stations have no access to YouTube etc. at all.
