I wonder if each member of the Massachusetts Bankers Association has the data to run stats on recently canceled cards (or cards showing illegal activity, cards where someone called in to report unauthorized charges, etc.) that might show the common denominator. I know from my card statements that some companies use a UID to denote a common vendor and another to show different retail locations. They might identify a breach faster than the company effected if there was a common system used across card issuers and such blind or anonymous information shared regionally and even nationally. MasterCard said in a statement it could not name the retailer because the breach is the subject of an ongoing investigation by law enforcement. The bankers association says the breach reportedly occurred from Dec. 7 to March 10. _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
