In July, the Houston School District, citing student privacy laws, declined to release last season's Bellaire High School baseball statistics (such as batting averages), even though requested by a player's parent
At least at the collegiate level, those types of stats are specifically *not* covered by privacy laws like FERPA. Presumably Houston can't grasp the concept that a student can choose to remain private, or they can *decide* to join an athletic team, and since the events are presumably public, and *anybody* on the sidelines can compile the stats if they so choose to, there's no reasonable expectation of privacy regarding what transpires in the game.
