Vern Paxson, et al did some research on the "ecosystem" created by the
combination of Code Red, Code Red II and Nimda. The servers weren't fixed, but the next infection supplanted the previous one. Now that makes sense. If a system was vulnerable enough to have Code Red it was vulnerable enough to have it supplanted by other malware. But shouldn't that have happened long ago?
