"is going to be" is not, and has never been, a past-tense conjugation. The form you were looking for is "was". (Vint said 140M zombies, and there was no massive wave of complaints. At that point, you really have to declare the battle *lost*, and your only sane alternative is to retreat, blow the bridges up behind you, and regroup so you can fight the enemy again at a later date under more auspicious circumstances. <Insert your own Sun Tzu quotes here> :)
