Also from: http://www.newscientisttech.com/article.ns?id=dn9650&feedId=online-news_rss20 Hammering on a computer could soon be more than just a sign of technological frustration, now that researchers have developed a way to control an ordinary laptop with a few taps on its casing. The idea comes from Nathan Harrington, a software developer working with IBM's open systems team in North Carolina, US. Harrington has written software that turns the accelerometer inside an IBM laptop's hard drive into a "knock sensor" that can be programmed to respond to tapping. In a video demonstration, Harrington show that programs can be launched or closed down with a few taps on the side of the laptop. The same trick can be used to lock and unlock a computer with a "secret knock". ----------------------------------- -JP<who's secret knock would be that jammin drum solo from Def Leppard, you know the one> <JK!!!> _______________________________________________ Fun and Misc security discussion for OT posts. https://linuxbox.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/funsec Note: funsec is a public and open mailing list.
