I wonder whether the software industry (BSA) or the entertainment industry (RIAA/MPAA) is the bigger proponent (read: campaign contributor) of this? Linux helps vs BSA, but if you commit the heinous crime of fair use (or if you don't own a computer http://tinyurl.com/kjhdd) not even Linux can save you from the RIAA. When did this happen? I missed it. DMCA?The mysterious 'They' *had* to criminalize it. After all, software piracy is used to finance terrorism....
I'm remembering the XCP rootkit debacle, where software piracy was used to fund Sony. (Or to save First4Internet the time to develop their own MP3 encoder - but applying US laws to overseas companies has always worked before...) And, seeing this was once funsec, anything that encourages people to switch from Warez95 to, oh, say, Linux, is surely a good thing :) James (Curses! Palmyra Atoll is a US territory? Now where can I run?) _______________________________________________ privacy mailing list privacy () whitestar linuxbox org http://www.whitestar.linuxbox.org/mailman/listinfo/privacy _______________________________________________ privacy mailing list privacy () whitestar linuxbox org http://www.whitestar.linuxbox.org/mailman/listinfo/privacy
