In this case - although sometimes that's not the whole story. For instance, the well-known phrases "Neither a borrower nor a lender be" and "To thine own self be true" both come from Lord Polonius's speech to Laertes in Hamlet (Act 1, Scene III). Of course, we know that Polonius is both excessively long-winded, and suffers from a severe case of "Do as I say, not as I do"....
