Can't wait to see what they do about Sprint's Atlantic lines... does that fall within maritime laws or some such? Do maritime laws cover wire tapping? :) But, seriously, while you may be talking to SOME of the choir here, People don't care. Even if they did, they don't care enough to stop voting with their history - pulling the lever for the party their parents did or did not vote for; or better, pulling the lever for a party that is too often considered a "wasted" vote! As far as I see it, and the reason I don't care about any of it, is that the ONLY way to fight this kind of intrusion - and eventually this kind of government - is the tried and true method of civil disobedience. Open and blunt disobedience even, then MASS civil disobedience. Use of force is always possible, on either side, but should be avoided. Its the way of the world. Thanks for the link. Every inch of ground given in the fight for our eroding privacy rights is a big deal. The _real_ big deal is that now it is being brought out of the shadows, exposed to the public in a way that they can understand and relate to it, at a moment in time where we may actually get some small amount of satisfaction that the telephone companies cannot so easily be complicit in their ability to simply give away such records outside of the framework of the law -- that's the real crime here. For a realy, really good legal analysis of the telco's role in this, see: http://volokh.com/posts/1147414541.shtml
