Did Microsoft already know about the .WMF flaw?

Hi, Does anyone know why the .WMF flaw doesn't show up when Internet Explorer directly displays a .WMF file? Is possible that the Internet Explorer team knew about the flaw and programmed around it? Or is there another explanation? If the problem was known about inside of Microsoft, how come the Picture and FAX viewer team didn't get the word? I'm having trouble understanding why some programs are affected by the bug and others are not when the underlying problem is in gdi32.dll. Richard M.
