When was the last time Microsoft released a Windows upgrade on time? The answer is probably the first time they released Windows - and then only if they didn't give a due date ahead of time like they do now.
A Microsoft lawyer on the Sun Java lawsuit actually said with a straight face that the lawsuit should be dismissed, because if Sun were to prevail, the resulting retooling that Microsoft would have to do to comply would cause the ship date of the next Windows release to slip, and that would have a measurable impact on the GNP. Personally, I think if your software is *so* critical that a ship date slip can hit the GNP, you're in need of *more* oversight and regulation... ;)
