Background ========== FAAD2 is an open source MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 AAC decoder. Affected packages ================= ------------------------------------------------------------------- Package / Vulnerable / Unaffected ------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 media-libs/faad2 < 2.6.1-r2 >= 2.6.1-r2 Description =========== The ICST-ERCIS (Peking University) reported a heap-based buffer overflow in the decodeMP4file() function in frontend/main.c. Impact ====== A remote attacker could entice a user to open a specially crafted MPEG-4 (MP4) file in an application using FAAD2, possibly leading to the execution of arbitrary code. Workaround ========== There is no known workaround at this time. Resolution ========== All FAAD2 users should upgrade to the latest version: # emerge --sync # emerge --ask --oneshot --verbose ">=media-libs/faad2-2.6.1-r2" References ========== [ 1 ] CVE-2008-4201 http://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2008-4201 Availability ============ This GLSA and any updates to it are available for viewing at the Gentoo Security Website: http://security.gentoo.org/glsa/glsa-200811-03.xml Concerns? ========= Security is a primary focus of Gentoo Linux and ensuring the confidentiality and security of our users machines is of utmost importance to us.
