Yes - I love running hardware firewall between me and other work
colleagues.
Just plonk the laptop down on the desk next to the ageing 386 bsd box
firewalling me from the corp network.

Then when I go out to a clients, I take the bsd box along as well.
Then when I travel somewhere I take the bsd box and plug it into the
hotel's network. They don't mind the extra power costs.

I am sure you realise there is a place for software as well as hardware
firewalls.
Personally I don't mind sygate pfp for duties on my laptop. Seems to do
the job pretty well.

Cheers

z

why are you buying application layer firewalls? dont as a security
person you learn anything?

get hold of a spare 386, and make a netbsd, ipcop, smoothwall, linux
based firewall, alot of fun and a shit load better, I will personally
stick with my checkpoint box, but please please start taking ya
firewalls of your own machines, they deserve a place of their own, ON
THEIR OWN BOX, Tiny and the rest have all been breached with deep packet
inspections through nemesis, at the end of the day, its still Layer 7

I remember using atguard a long time ago. Symantec
bought atguard and now uses the engine in Norton
Personal Firewall/Internet Security. I personally
don't like NPF.

I used Tiny Personal Firewall 1.x before they were
bought by Kerio. Kerio Personal Firewall is the
replacement to TPF. Their latest beta causes error
messages on my computer but other than that it looks
great. Im using the stable version 2.15 until they
sort all of the bugs out :

Stable:
http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf2-en-win.exe

4.0 RC3:
http://www.kerio.com/dwn/kpf4-beta.exe

They also have great support forums:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/keriofirewall/

anyway, it appears it's finally time to move on
from atguard and I was
wondering if anyone here has any suggestions for
something simple and
similar.
