That is almost correct. If the device has a SINGLE Col LED, then indeed the chances are very good that it is a hub. However, if it has a Col LED for each port, then it is a switch. I have an old LinkSys switch for example that has Lnk/Col LEDs in addition to the FD/HD and 10/100 LEDs. So a single Col LED means single collision domain meaning it's a hub. Multiple Col LEDs indicate multiple collision domains meaning it's a switch. Almost forgot... If you have two Col LEDs, then you have most likely a dual-speed hub ;) Regards, Frank
