Gartner Report Thread Administrivia

Focus-IDS Readers,

In order to avoid beating an already dead horse, I'll keep this as short as I
can.

We're getting to the point where most of the posts relating to the Gartner
thread on Focus-IDS are simply rehashing what has been said earlier (more or
less). As such, I'm going to begin killing off the thread. Now, this is not to
say that this topic should just be brushed under the rug and forgotten.

Our good friend Dragos (think CanSecWest) beat me to the draw in suggesting what
this list, as a community, can do constructively in order to rebuke the article
published by Gartner. Obviously, the general opinion towards this article from
members of the ID community is sour. I encourage the more involved readers of
this list to put together some sort of formal rebuttal to the Gartner article
for public consumption. What better way to publicly dispute a press release than
with another press release (especially one with the support of an entire
community, vendors and users included).

Needless to say, the actual discussion involving the creation of a document such
as this probably shouldn't take place on the list directly, however, I will be
more than happy to collect a list of interested parties and put the interested
people in touch with one another.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or issues with regards to this post,
please do not hesitate to contact me at jmiller () securityfocus com

Regards,

J.
