So, is there some cheap way to have one NIC respond to multiple MAC addresses? I'm most comfortable with Linux, but if I needed to use BSD or something else I'd be willing to do that.
So, what you are talking about is proxy ARP. An interface that responds at layer-2 as if it were multiple different hosts. This is a necessary funtion to enable many static-NAT implementations - such as CheckPoint FW-1 Linux: http://www.sjdjweis.com/linux/proxyarp/ http://www.linux.com/howtos/Proxy-ARP-Subnet/intro.shtml -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFA8BMWJi2cv3XsiSARApojAJwKuzJTHOsAfvH87ws79J5NwGdbQwCdH07H 2EQ7MRZZYzCKxMG46OVo8lw= =9xbj -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- _______________________________________________ firewall-wizards mailing list firewall-wizards () honor icsalabs com http://honor.icsalabs.com/mailman/listinfo/firewall-wizards
