We are doing that right now on a smaller scale for our customers.  Offer
the customer our own managed equipment (we won't assume ownership of a
customer owned firewall - too messy sometimes).  Equipment ranges from
Cisco PIX, Netscreen and Linux generally.

In regards to running your own firewall, if you have an experienced IT
department that is security anal (sorry, best word I could think of)
then you should be fine running your own.  If you would rather have a
team of people look after this equipment and give you peace of mind,
then outsource in my opinion.

My boss has asked me to investigate managed firewall solutions for our
organization.  
We're a mid-sized organization: 700 employees, 200 servers (mostly
Windows).


Does anyone have any experience with companies that do this that they

like to share?  
What are a few pros and cons that come to mind versus managing the
firewalls
yourself?  
Do these companies manage the firewalls as we currently have them, or do
they install/configure 
their own? - currently we use Gauntlet firewalls.
Who are the major players in this market (those that are likely to be

for awhile)?

I'm just looking for a basis to start my exploration.
