depending on the perspective.

It's certainly viable if you're concerned with fragmented attacks and ids on
highly utilized segments.
As a personal fw/ids system, IcePAC suite is pretty solid.

(it's difficult to get anyone to endorse ICE at this time of year,
especially as you gaze upon your front steps)
