1. BlackIce cannot be compared to NFR and RealSecure due to the fact that BlackIce has much different capabilities than NFR and RealSecure. BlackICE was originally designed as a personal IDS for the end user. Then all of suddenly the product was placed in the same category as NFR and RealSecure. NFR and RealSecure are tow products that are well defined IDS products that have distinct feature sets. Under any circumstance do not consider deploying BlackICE as a middle level enterprise system. Although according to BlackICE SNAKE people, they have over 800,000 installation in less than a year, A great majority of them are 1 instance of the application not an agent reporting to a console. I would compar BlackICE to NFR BOF. BlackICE has a little more alerts than NFR BOF. /m Bruce Nearon <bnearon () JHCohn com> Sent by: owner-firewall-wizards () lists nfr net 03/08/00 10:33 AM To: "'firewall-wizards () nfr net'" <firewall-wizards () nfr net> cc: Subject: nfr and realsecure vs blackice Will someone please comment on how BlackIce stacks up against NFR and RealSecure as an IDS for a middle level enterprise desiring a moderate high level of security protection.
