ICMP is a protocol not a service. It is on par with TCP or UDP. TCP and USP are prtocols that have services identified by ports, not ICMP. That said, ther are ICMP packet type codes which distinguish different ICMP message formats. wpl1 () jps net on 28/09/99 11:28:52 AM Please respond to wpl1 () jps net To: firewall-wizards () nfr net cc: (bcc: Bill Royds/HullOttawa/PCH/CA) Subject: ICMP Well-Known Port Evidently I'm really missing the boat. I've been trying to find the well-known port for ICMP. Is there no such thing? Dean C. Rowan Whittier Public Library
