The Division of Information Technology at University of Maryland College
Park has an opening for a *Director, Data Privacy Officer (position #
106566)*.

The Data Privacy Officer (DPO) within the Division of Information
Technology (DIT) is the individual responsible for the planning,
development, and execution of the University Data Privacy Program. The DPO
will work with campus partners to mature and optimize privacy policies and
processes related to university-wide data governance. The DPO will work to
ensure that the University becomes compliant with the Maryland Higher
Education Privacy Act (HEPA) prior to its effective date in October 2024.
The DPO reports to the Vice President/Chief Information Officer (VP/CIO)
with a dotted line report to the Vice President for Legal Affairs and
General Counsel.


*Minimum qualifications*

● Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
● At least 8 years of experience in Data Privacy, Policy Development,
Compliance, IT Security or Audit.
● Understanding of common security/privacy regulations such as PCI/DSS,
FERPA, HIPAA, and GDPR.
● Experience developing processes and guidelines based on best practices
and industry standards.
● Strong analytical skills and an aptitude for understanding and explaining
complex technical, business, and legal concepts.
● Proven ability to prioritize and efficiently organize tasks and resources.
● Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to present to
diverse audiences.
● Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and
maintain effective relationships with internal and external partners.


*Preferences*

● Advanced degree in public policy, information science, or law.
● Work experience in higher education or state/local government.
● Knowledge of developments in the areas of privacy, IT policy, and
research compliance.
● Experience building consensus and fostering community support for complex
and potentially contentious topics.
● Experience with policy development and dissemination.
● Experience performing privacy, information security, or compliance
audits/assessments.

*Physical demands:* sedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit
for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel
occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus.
