That should have read “around reducing staff commuting”, It does help to “reduce staff computing” 😉 From: The EDUCAUSE Security Community Group Listserv <SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU> On Behalf Of Scott Norton Sent: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 11:06 AM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: Re: [SECURITY] Use of Personal Computers for Work One of the issue we have is bad policy related to work at home coming from HR and financial folks forcing people to use their own equipment as a matter of maintaining their employment and to meet the institution’s environment goals around reducing staff computing. With out getting these policies in alignment folks you may end up forcing some folks to violate your policy, and then not report security issues they had on their personally held systems which is a much bigger issue. Staff are fairly easy. Adjunct instructors are more difficult as the departments don’t want to spend money on laptops for adjunct instructors. I've been saying to people it's bad security practice to be letting people use their own laptops (especially on the staff side) but it might be time to formalize something before people start thinking too much about going in this direction. Any thoughts you might have on this would be greatly appreciated as well as any policies on this that you might be willing to share. Thank you in advance!
