PII Information and Sensitive Data Storage Solution Question.

We are in the process to implement a PII Information and sensitive data storage solution. We are inclined to use Nimble Storage for data-at-rest encryption solution because we already have in our campus. One of the issues is: If you lose the passphrase for the master key, data in encrypted volumes cannot be retrieved. We have to store and manage the passphrase(s) in a secure and accessible place. I would like to know if anyone has used or using Nimble Storage encryption solution before I jump on the trampoline. I am also wondering what other institutions are doing to address the PII information storage solution, example: Cloud or on premises solutions, ( (google drive, Drop-box, Netapp, etc..) Any help possible it will be greatly appreciated.
