For what it's worth, on the Mac OS, the single-threaded McAfee enterprise client is responsible for the worst performance hit of any AV that I tested. Also, in more than a few cases, we needed to load another anti-malware app on a system to clean out a browser highjacking problem that McAfee missed. After some research and testing, I came to the conclusion that Avira Free for Mac offers the best protection with the smallest performance footprint. We're now moving to it on our in-house video production and editing systems and have seen a substantial improvement. We were using AVG for a while for this group but I'm starting to phase it out because of privacy concerns with their free version (there's no paid Mac version of either of these). We are currently using McAfee as our AV solution but are evaluating other options. We are upgrading to the latest McAfee Endpoint Security version for our enterprise but also want to consider other products including Microsoft’s System Center Endpoint Protection/Defender platform. The latter would save us money but I’m not yet confident that it is a viable enterprise solution. I’d appreciate any feedback on McAfee, Microsoft or other enterprise-grade solutions that you are using.
