Note that browsers are dropping support for java applets.

+1 for Pulse Secure SSL-VPN.

The current Pulse Secure code has HTML5/RDP native support for Windows
machines (using Guacamole) and it works well. It also has native support for
HTML5/SSH.

We have not tried connecting to Macs yet, but I’ve read that there may also be a
way to do it from Pulse Secure using a VNC Java Applet.

Ideally this Remote Access solution will be device agnostic and accommodate:

-Remote Desktop to a PC
-Remote Desktop to a Mac
-SSH Gateway (may need a separate tool for SSH Gateway)

Are there any solutions out there that handle it all now?

Sounds like a purpose-configured SSL VPN concentrator should do it. We've
been using the Pulse Secure (previously Juniper, but they acquired the
technology from Netscreen, who got it from Neoteris) SSL VPN solution for this
since 2007 or so. You won't be able to do native remote control of a Mac
through the box, but you'll be able to tunnel the VNC traffic via SSH through the
box.
