Valerie
I want to second that. Very helpful indeed for the security journey on our respective campuses. I wish you and everyone
on the team a merry Christmas and happy and safe holidays

This message is posted on behalf of the HEISC co-chairs to provide an update on 2014 activities and 2015 priorities.
(This message was shared with the CIO list yesterday.)

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to highlight some of the HEISC (Higher Education Information Security Council) accomplishments in 2014.

  1. Participation in the latest EDUCAUSE Review Online transmedia article, "Outside the Box: Evolution and Ascent of
the CISO."
  2. Publication of the third major edition of the Information Security Guide, aligning with the ISO/IEC 27002:2013
standard.
  3. Hosting a successful and well-attended 12th annual Security Professionals Conference in St. Louis and online.
  4. Coordination of 20 guest blogs and 2 webinars for Data Privacy Month in January/February and National Cyber
Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) in October.
  5. Receiving an APEX Award of Excellence for a 2013 NCSAM guest blog by Martin Holste.
  6. Hosting a lively discussion between CISOs and CIOs at EDUCAUSE 2014 in Orlando. Follow-up professional
development activities will continue in 2015.
We would also like to let the community know that we plan to continue the 2014 priorities in 2015: Strengthen
Foundations; Continue to Build the Information Security Profession; and Advance Information Security Strategies in
Higher Education. HEISC working groups will focus on 3 major activities throughout the year: revising and refining
theInformation Security Guide; coordinating the Security Professionals Conference and other awareness events; and
fostering communication within the community. If there are specific resources you'd like to see developed next year,
please let us know.

We welcome your questions or comments.

Thank you,
Elias Eldayrie and Melissa Woo, HEISC Co-Chairs
