Associate Chief Information Security Officer

The Associate Chief Information Security Officer directly assists the Chief Information Security Officer who oversees 
activities that serve to protect the security, confidentiality, and integrity of Stanford's information assets. The 
Associate CISO directly assists the University’s lead information security professional who has enterprise-level 
responsibility for Stanford information security policies, standards, guidelines, reviews, and awareness. From time to 
time the Associate CISO will be called upon to fill in for the CISO and should be capable of assuming the CISO role.

The Associate Chief Information Security Officer reports directly to the VP and Chief Information Security Officer.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Assist in coordinating information security efforts University-wide.
•Develop and update policies, standards, and guidelines related to information security.
-Together with Office of General Counsel, monitor legislative and regulatory requirements that impact the University's 
information security practices.
•Develop and implement proactive information security initiatives.
•Envision, develop and implement proactive information security initiatives.
•Provide information and training to faculty, staff and students on sound security practicies.
•Guide/advise schools, departments, and administrative offices in applying sound practices in securing the information 
systems under their control.
•Review the security of existing and new computing systems/environments to (1) improve compliance with University 
security policies and directions and (2) assist in the overall integration of security with Stanford’s technology 
environment.
•Assit with computer security incident response planning and execution.
•Receive reports on security breaches, and take appropriate action to minimize harm and liability.

QUALIFICATIONS:
•Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) required. Graduate degree desired.
•At least 10 years of work experience in the information security field.
•At least 5 years experience in leading IT activities within a complex work environment.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Staff management skills.
•Customer service experience.
•Ability to apply management and leadership skills to attain and maintain acceptable institutional information security 
profiles in a cost-effective manner.
