I would be interested in hearing from other institutions, both public and private, that provide a stipend or alternative model for employees to procure their own cellular service. We at JJC are planning to get out of the cell phone business. We are putting together procedures to identify employees whom we would require have the service and we would pay them a stipend that basically would cover the cost. On an annual basis, each department will need to review and approve a monthly communications allowance for individuals who are deemed necessary to have a cell phone. A form will be submitted for approvals by the employee's supervisor and VP. Once approved, the individual will get the allowance through payroll. We've been planning to only support ActiveSync-compatible devices, including the iPhone. Is anyone using the Active Sync controls in Exchange to push security controls to these devices? Some controls would include an automated timeout, required pin or password, and enabling remote wipe for lost or stolen devices. If you have procedures/policy to share, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any feedback.
