Re: University credentials used by third parties

OK, I tried to stay out of the old-timer memories of the good 'ole days, but all this
card talk, I have to relate one tale...

UTC used to do mass registration in the Gym. Students were mailed an "appointment card"
with their student ID punched into the card and some other information, such as their
registration appointment time.

We also punched "class cards" -- one per seat per class, that were distributed to the
departments, who then arranged their stacks of "classes" on their table in the gym.

The student wandered around the gym collecting class cards (no cards, sorry, class is
full), and on the way out the door, submitted their "deck" to the registrar (ID card in
front, class cards followed). These were stacked in the big long data trays for
transport to the data center by us, ahem, student operators, to be fed into the
registration program.

One particular fall, one tray didn't make the trip undisturbed... it was dropped in
transit :-)

"Most" of them stayed more-or-less in order... but there were some... umm... exceptions...
