Something different for National Cyber Security Awareness Month?

We're almost halfway through National Cyber Security Awareness Month.
It's not too late to participate!

How are your security awareness initiatives going?

Are you doing anything you consider to be really different?

How are you reaching the Net Generation?

Here are a couple of initiatives that are just a little ways off the
beaten track:

* At the Rochester Institute of Technology, we're holding a
"Phishy: Phrends and Phoes Security Awareness Costume Contest". For more
information and pix, check out our Facebook event page at
http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/event.php?eid=140821267973&index=1.
(Yes, we're renting a fish costume and having our student employees walk
around campus sharing information about phishing.)
* The UTSA-Office of Information Technology has created an "RU
Safe Online" pirate-themed website at http://www.utsa.edu/cybersecurity,
including pirate music, games, and more. Aargh!

This year the EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Higher Education Information Security
Council (formerly the Security Task Force) and the National Cyber
Security Alliance have worked to make getting involved even easier.

Suggested EDUCAUSE resources:

* Endorsement Forms: Institutions can show their commitment to
cyber security by endorsing October 2009 as National Cyber Security
Awareness month. The endorsement form can be completed online.
* Customizable Posters: For the first time, there is a special
poster for the month that is customizable with a logo or a message to
help promote local activities.
* A Wide Variety of Media Tools: Other information and resources
include Web banners, brochures, and safety tips.
* As always all NCSA materials and endorsements are free.
Materials have been designed for easy to downloading and repurposing.
