What is the typical boot time of a computer in a student lab at your institution? I think that it is going to be pretty variable depending on the hardware, OS and applications started. On an HP 7900 with Vista, boot time is just over a minute and user login times average about a minute. Logoff times are 15-20 seconds. What type of antivirus do you run? Symantec What is the hardware in the PCs? Around 1800 machines, mixture of Dell 620, 745, 755's and HP 7900's Do you use a product like deep freeze or clean slate? No, just use windows file ACLs and Active Directory policies applied to the computer, users only have normal user rights, no ability to install or do anything on the computer. NetApp file server for everyone's roaming profiles/home drive space. Do you run a windows, novell, linux, unix, etc domain? Microsoft 2003 Active Directory Thanks, Sure --- Wally Strzelec, GCFA, GCWN, GCUX, GSLC Sr. IT Manager Computing & Information Services Texas A&M University Daniel Bennett IT Security Analyst Security+ PA College of Technology One College Ave Williamsport PA 17701 (P) 570.329.4989
