Hey Kevin,

I know that Rich would have liked to have had a SOC here but it never happened. Now that we have formed a new Security
Engineering group I will be putting together at a minimum a wall in which we will have screens monitoring our
IPS/IDS/Netflow/Syslogs/Whatever else I can think of so that all of us can see what is going on in a single place.
Since all five of us will be in the same room it should be fairly easy to monitor.

That's probably as close as we will ever get to a SOC.

Subject: [SECURITY] SOC

Hi Everyone:

I know more detailed information about this has gone around the list but I am trying to find out just a couple of items
surrounding the prevalence (or lack of) SOCs within institutions of higher education. So if you have a SOC and
wouldn't mind replying I would like to know:

* how many people staff it

* is it part of your InfoSec group or part of your call center/help desk group

Thanks,
-Kevin
