Shouldn't these policies be aligned with your organization's HR policies on termination, including access to their office and paper files? Especially in the case of termination for misconduct, any further interaction with the organization involves security and legal processes that need to be followed. The IT policy should say "follow HR procedures" and interpret them for IT situations. On the other hand, like our institution, many organizations don't have such HR procedures documented! ....Kent Kent Percival Manager, IT Development Office of the CIO University of Guelph Guelph, ON N1G 2W1 -----Original Message-----

Subject: Policy concerning terminated employee email and file service
access
Does anyone have a policy they could share that covers the rights of
an
employee terminated (including termination for misconduct) in terms of
their access to email and file services? We are grappling with how
much
access, if any, and under what circumstances to allow a terminated
employee access to their data which may contain personal and
university
business-related email and files.
Thanks,
Jim
