Kevin, You can set this in Group Policy. When you set it there is an option to tell the client not to reboot when finished applying the updates. If you don't set this anyone with unsaved work will come in to find their computer at a login prompt...an no saved work. This article covers the GPO settings. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;327850 --Chris Christopher Harrington Chief Technology Officer nitrosecurity o: 603.766.8160 c: 603.969.0592 e: charrington () nitrosecurity com w: www.nitrosecurity.com -----Original Message----- From: Kevin Shalla [mailto:kshalla () UIC EDU] Sent: Thursday, November 10, 2005 12:58 PM To: SECURITY () LISTSERV EDUCAUSE EDU Subject: [SECURITY] Windows Automatic Updates not auto updating We've set up Windows Automatic Update to automatically download and install updates every day, and have found that some updates still won't go without manual intervention. In particular, we've found that some were still waiting for XP service pack 2! In the lower right-hand corner there is an icon that says (if you mouse over) that updates are ready to be installed, but our users don't look at that, so they don't get installed. Is there a way to set up Windows Automatic Update to install updates without any input required?
