Re: SPAM/spyware appliances or services

We have a couple MailFrontier m500 boxes installed in our environment. They
were very easy to install (it may have taken an hour) and work great (they
capture about 95+% of spam). I would highly recommend them.

We have approximately 40,000 email boxes that we're protecting with the
m500s. They're used for antispam, antiphishing and 'antiexecutable' (we
block all executables plus .zip and .rar files from entering the
University).

One feature that our administration wanted was the ability for the mail
recipients to configure their own antispam settings, white lists, black
lists, etc. The m500s do this very well. We have them tie into AD for
authentication for personal changes.

Has anyone had any experience with Mailfrontier?

We had the Bluecat Networks box in for a couple months and our users
LOVED it for the simplicity of the interface with its end-user features
(white-list, etc.) On the admin side, however we found that it simply
had far too many false positives. We now have CipherTrust's IronMail
and I like it although the sheer number of features and settings can be
daunting at times.

We also tried Sophos PureMessage and didn't like their product either
because it seemed to let too much spam through. Sometimes there's just
no pleasing us.

Thanks for reading my 2 cents,

Has anyone used Bluecat Networks Meridus Security Gateway Appliance as a
spam solution? I looked into it about a year ago and was very impressed
to the point of recommending the device, but that project got put on
hold. I'd be very interested to hear if anyone has actually used this
device.

Also, has anyone considered using AdAware for anti-spyware? Why or why
not?

Thanks for your help,
