New browser exploit trick

I visited a web page, and it popped up some junk.  I clicked on X to get
rid of the stuff, and the next time I went home to my web page it was
different.  I had pretty strict browser settings.  But a friend when I
decribed the URL below that I fished out of my browser, said that it
threw up a lot of space (enough for me not to focus on it, and then when
I clicked, it updated my browser preferences.  He said that there were
ways of locking browser preferences, listed in the MS Knowledgebase, but
I couldn't find them.  Anyone know the trick?
