First Assistant Harris County Attorney Robert Soard tells the Houston Chronicle that an outside law enforcement agency contacted the county two weeks ago about the theft. He declined to identify the agency but said it discovered files created in 2005 and 2007 containing the names, Social Security numbers, birth dates and hire dates of every person employed by the county at those times. He says the county waited two weeks to notify the workers of the theft because it didn't want to compromise an ongoing investigation. It's not clear if the data was used criminally. _______________________________________________ Dataloss-discuss Mailing List (dataloss-discuss () datalossdb org) Archived at http://seclists.org/dataloss/ Unsubscribe at http://lists.osvdb.org/mailman/listinfo/dataloss-discuss Supporters: Risk Based Security (http://www.riskbasedsecurity.com/) Risk Based Security equips organizations with security intelligence, risk management services and on-demand security solutions to establish customized risk-based programs to address information security and compliance challenges.
