http://news.err.ee/13b1f78a-6860-4c0e-a63b-52ef06e8d6f8 On Tuesday, Harju County Court found Alice Järvet, a former head of the analysis and planning bureau, guilty of leaking information from a police database. Järvet was fined 9,398 euros and was suspended from police work for three years, court spokeswoman Kristina Ots told uudised.err.ee. In January, the public prosecutor made a second attempt at bringing charges against Järvet, as the first guilty verdict had been appealed by the Supreme Court last spring for being overly broad. According to the indictment, Järvet twice disclosed private information regarding a person's health, private life or business activity to an unauthorized individual in 2009. Speaking to uudised.err.ee, Järvet has previously called the charges absurd. "Over the years I have conducted around 40,000 queries and have helped police catch criminals involved in drug crimes and other crimes," Järvet said. She said the queries in question were two e-mails sent to a former significant other, Erki Korp, who heads Tallinn children's shelter. "The queries were of a professional nature, related to drugs and prostitution. And they were sent in full consciousness," Järvet said. She added that the shelter had a special agreement with the police that authorized her actions, and that Korp was an employee of the City of Tallinn and therefore had more rights than a regular citizen. Järvet was fired from the police when the scandal broke out in 2009. She appealed the decision in court, but without success. _______________________________________________ Dataloss Mailing List (dataloss () datalossdb org) Archived at http://seclists.org/dataloss/ Unsubscribe at http://datalossdb.org/mailing_list Supporters: Risk Based Security (http://www.riskbasedsecurity.com/) Risk Based Security equips organizations with security intelligence, risk management services and on-demand security solutions to establish customized risk-based programs to address information security and compliance challenges.
