A [Greater Manchester Police] detective has been suspended after a
memory stick containing details of people who have tipped off police
was stolen in a burglary at his home [July 17].

The Home Secretary has asked to be kept updated about the urgent hunt
for the stolen device, which holds data relating to almost 2,500 cases
and the identities of informants. .... The missing data also includes
confidential details about police officers, past police operations and
potential targets for arrest.
