A temporary employment agency in Conyers apparently dumped some of the
sensitive documents at a Smyrna Recycling Center that sparked a state
investigation.

In a statement issued Friday, Terry White of Pro Temps said he thought
the fenced-in recycling center was secure when he dropped off two or
three boxes containing employee records from 1998-2001.

I was under the [mistaken] impression that the bin would be taken away
and its contents shredded, the statement said.

On Wednesday, the Governor’s Office of Consumer Affairs began a civil
investigation after W-2 forms, old bankruptcy papers and documents with
Social Security numbers were found in the bin. Bill Cloud of the GOCA
said a notice was sent Friday to Pro Temps informing the company it’s
being investigated.

White apologized and said Pro Temps will either shred its documents or
hire a company to do the shredding.

The Governor's Office of Consumer Affairs is investigating the dumping
of boxes of personal information -- W-2 forms, bankruptcy files and old
checks -- into a bin at the Smyrna Recycling Center.

The documents included W2 forms for 1998, 1999 and 2000, Social Security
numbers and other sensitive personal information, a Smyrna police report
said. It was not immediately known how many such documents were in the
bin, but Smyrna police investigator Joe Bennett said the papers were
piled five or six feet deep in a 10-by-20-foot dumpster.

Smyrna police went to the recycling center Wednesday when somebody
reported finding several W-2 forms inside a dumpster. Morris Johnson,
42, of Acworth drove up later with a pickup full of documents, police said.
