Gables Couple Accused Of Stealing Patient Records

A Coral Gables couple is accused of allegedly stealing patient information
from hospitals and selling it to lawyers for kickback payments.

Federal authorities say Ruben Rodriguez and Maria Victoria Suarezpaid an
ambulance-company employee to steal computer records of patients which
were sent to Miami-Dade hospitals and healthcare clinics.

The records included patients' names, addresses, telephone numbers and
medical diagnoses, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. The
couple allegedly stole records as far back as 1995.

Medical records are confidential, and it's illegal to provide them to
anyone without the patient's permission. But this is not the first time
that Rodriguez and Suarez landed in hot water for allegedly stealing these
records.

The couple was charged with conspiracy to steal patient records from
Jackson Memorial Hospital last year. Rodriguez and Suarez allegedly used
the same technique to get the information and get rich off of it.
