TN: Metro Students' Personal Data Leaked

The state education department announced Wednesday that a private 
contractor unintentionally put student data on a computer Web server that 
wasn't secure at the end of December.

State officials said more than 18,000 Metro Nashville students' names, 
Social Security numbers, addresses and dates of birth and more than 6,000 
parents' demographic information were available by searching Google.

The private contractor -- Public Consulting Group or PCG -- removed the 
information from the server March 5. The information was removed from 
Google by March 31 at PCG's request. The data was available online from 
Dec. 28 to March 31.
