i do not know if my post will see daylight as Dave has not been posting my reply to DD for a while ;) Nico is spot on. Back in 2012 when i keynoted at Infiltrate, that was the main message that i sent out. there is a gut of security conferences and not enough good talks to go around. i can understand why people want to organise a security con in their own cities. they do it for their community. that's very admirable and should be supported. if someone organise a con for their local community, i will do my best to support it (if they ask for support). small local security cons are awesome. sometime the talks may not be all interesting but the atmosphere of the cons are wonderful. you can feel the community spirit and the camaraderie. unlike some big bloodsucking cons where you have to pay for everything, you feel cold and aloof, or like some media-whoring cons where you are better-off gagging yourself and be away from the spotlight unless you want to be misquoted or....become famous. i have been to Ekoparty twice and both times i enjoyed myself tremendously. Buenos Aires is an awesome place and the people are very friendly. there are also many talented people at the conference. its very unfortunate that i cannot make it this year due to very personal reason but do not cry for me Argentina......cos..i'll be back...hasta la vista. For those who dont know, EKO stand for Electronic Knock Out. In 1992 AD, back when people where painting their nails black, it used to have a darkest meaning but i swear with my life not to reveal it. With the increasing amount of new conference, each of them are struggling to achieve that unique experience feeling but most of them fail. I think is a combination of the city, the venue, the people and the effort the organize put to make all of these happen (most of the time, presentation are secondary). Ekoparty, like Kiwicon, Syscan, Pacsec, Infiltrate and a few others, archieve that and make you count your days until the next one. This is also, one of the two times a year that you can see a big part of the Immunity team together. So if you are around, come by and said hi. This year, we decide to move location for the Hack cup and we will do it at the Ekoparty instead of Vegas, i'm gonna expect some hardcore football and you are more than welcome to see how competitive its gonna turn. (Wednesday 18hs at - Salguero Futbol - Avenida Rafael Obligado 1221). And the same day, as part of a new born tradition there will be a BJJ Openmat at 14hs, we might not have a world champion like Infiltrate, but we are expecting way more brazilians :). See you there Nico _______________________________________________ Dailydave mailing list Dailydave () lists immunityinc com https://lists.immunityinc.com/mailman/listinfo/dailydave
