I don't mind sponsorship as much as I do the lack of knowledge transfer. If you have a flow chart for a problem and one of the boxes is a ? thats not as good as a talk that shows lots of IDA screens. I feel like the difference between RSA and Defcon is that RSA talks are marketing pitches for products where Defcon has technical discussions of problems. So leaving an RSA talk is a lot like those mysterious drug commercials that just list random symptoms and sends the masses in a hypochondria, where Defcon leaves me thinking how can I integrate this into my testing or write exploits to take advantage of it. As long as I leave a conference with that Defcon feeling I am happy regardless of how it's funded. On Mar 22, 2012, at 2:56 PM, Christien Rioux <crioux () noctem org> wrote:
That's an good goal for an event if you can afford it. SOURCE Conference accepts sponsorship, but no sponsorship level includes 'paid keynotes' or track talks. Any 'vendor' sessions are clearly marked as such, and our advisory board would never accept vendor pitches masquerading as track talks. When you're a smaller event, it's not that hard to keep the vendors where they should be. --chris On Thu, Mar 22, 2012 at 2:27 PM, The Dark Tangent <dtangent () defcon org> wrote:What he said. DEF CON has not and will not even accept sponsorship at any level. I'm not sure what conferences still do that, but I don't want to risk any vendor taint at all. Dear Dave, not every conference does that. We choose our keynotes carefully and make sure that they don't have a vendor or product pitch. And we pay for travel and accommodation for all speakers, including key note... regards, DeepSec _______________________________________________ Dailydave mailing list Dailydave () lists immunityinc com http://lists.immunityinc.com/mailman/listinfo/dailydave_______________________________________________ Dailydave mailing list Dailydave () lists immunityinc com http://lists.immunityinc.com/mailman/listinfo/dailydave
