For those of you traveling to INFILTRATE (in just a few short days!) I wanted to post a list of books, so you don't end up reading the whole Stain trilogy, or "The Lucky One" or something like that. First off, thrillers/spy books: Robert Baer is a bit political, but he's a very good writer and all his books are extremely readable. You'll remember him from incoherent movies (Syriana) that were based on his books, just fictional enough to get past pre-pub review. All his books are great, and it's even well worth reading his Amazon reviews. http://www.amazon.com/Company-Keep-Husband---Wife-ebook/dp/B004J4WMK4 http://www.amazon.com/See-No-Evil-Terrorism-ebook/dp/B000FC1KC0 For a more historical perspective (esp. on Pakistan), this book is quite interesting. There's a lot of great stuff in here you won't read anywhere else. http://www.amazon.com/Main-Enemy-Inside-Showdown-ebook/dp/B000QCS8Y2/ On the more fictional side, you can't go wrong with these two: Nick McDonnal annoyed quite a lot of people by writing well at a very young age, and An Expensive Education is a fantastic example of the genre - perfect airplane fodder. http://www.amazon.com/An-Expensive-Education-ebook/dp/B002HWSXJE/ And of course, Alan Furst makes every person who read a Bourne novel feel like they wasted their time, which they did. His books are all set back in WWII, and he's a much better writer than the more celebrated John Le Carre. http://www.amazon.com/Spies-Warsaw-Novel-ebook/dp/B000YJ6772/ Tomorrow I'll do a post of books on the history of various foods, but even if you aren't coming to INFILTRATE (you'll miss out on the great TESO/ADM/SYNERGY drinking game!) you could do worse than these books. :> -dave
