Probably the most important thing to happen this year in hacking was
Climategate. How often does the US President and Secretary of State get
briefed on a mailspool drop?

People [1] talk a lot about the "asymmetric nature of cyberwarfare".
It's not. It's something else entirely. What you get when you apply
"warfare" to hacking is people looking to target digital "nerve
centers", you get people going on about OODA loops. Next time you smack
a mosquito remember that John Boyd would wither in envy at her OODA loop
but it didn't help her at all.[2]

Anyways, here's one thing that you can target with code: an ideology. We
saw it happen this year, and although I may have picked a better target,
I couldn't have picked a better example.

thanks for the great year, list people!

[2] Incidentally, Maverick in Top Gun was not so keen on the OODA
loop/flight energy level training either - his goal was to do the
unexpected, like any good hacker. You can learn a lot from 80's chick
flicks. :>
