I think everybody in a security community tried at least once in their lifetime to put all their favorite tools into a nice organized fashion. It is a daunting experience, but worthwhile. There is a quite a good book which might be of your interest "Digital Forensics with Open Source Tools" ISBN-10: 1597495867.
