Can I use truecrypt for full disk encryption regarding external hard disk.

Please clarify what you are looking for. A full disk encryption solution or folder encryption? If it's the former 
then you should consider that:

- Symantec also offer a good solution! But it's not open source..


- Bitlocker integrates with AD but requires Windows 7 and the enterprise edition(?)

Can try sophos safeguard enterprise. That works well with AD integrated role based policy
